A Tabletop That Floats on Its Own Light

The Nit 80 R turns the idea of a table lamp inside out. Instead of a shade sitting on a stem, a wide circular top seems to hover on a glowing skirt underneath it, so the light does the work usually left to legs and a base. It throws just enough glow to gather people around it after dark, without taking up any extra room on a terrace or patio table.

Three Finishes, Three Moods

Ivory pairs a pale powder coated frame with a beige rattan style weave, keeping the whole piece light and understated for a Mediterranean or coastal look. Stone brings the same weave through in brown, a warmer, more grounded tone that suits timber decking and stone paving. Terracota drops the woven texture in favour of a solid burnt orange finish, a bolder pick for anyone who wants the lamp to stand out rather than blend in.

How It Works

The Nit 80 R runs on battery power, so it needs no cable and no nearby socket. It comes with a 100 to 240V charger and an integrated switch that steps through three brightness levels of 33%, 66% and 100%, useful for dialling the mood up or down through the evening. Inside the aluminium structure, a light cylinder sends glow both upward, gently washing the tabletop, and downward through the hand woven screen, so the light reads as ambient rather than a single bright point.

Where It Works Best

Its size and the fact that it needs no wiring make it a natural fit for outdoor dining tables, terraces and garden lounge areas where running a cable simply is not practical. It works equally well as the centrepiece on a large patio table or set on its own as a freestanding side table with built in light for a poolside lounge or balcony.

Bover began in Barcelona in 1996, when Joana Bover sketched an idea for an architect friend's project and turned it into a brand. It is still designed and made in Spain, based in Cardedeu near Barcelona, and has built a reputation for hand woven synthetic fibre pieces for outside spaces alongside intricate wood lattice fixtures for indoors, such as the Dome family built from over 170 individually woven beech strips. The Nit 80 R carries that same Mediterranean sensibility outdoors. Bover opened a US subsidiary in Atlanta in 2012.

Is the Nit 80 R wired or battery powered?
It is fully battery powered. It comes with a 100 to 240V charger, so there is no cable to run and no need for an outdoor socket near the table.
