A Larger Sphere Inspired by a Cadaqués Cove

The Nans Sphere PF/80 is the largest flush ceiling light in Bover's Sphere collection, its rounded, hand woven shade drawing on the same inspiration as the rest of the range: Cala Nans, a secluded cove near Cadaqués with an old lighthouse and a weathered coastline. Sized up from the PF/60, it's built for locations where a hanging pendant won't fit, spreading a soft, even light across a wider area while keeping the same handcrafted character.

Three Woven Finishes: Beige, Brown and Red

Beige gives the sphere a pale, sandy tone that sits quietly against stone, render or light timber. Brown is a warmer, earthier finish, closer to the colour of natural rattan, and works well against aged wood or dark metalwork. Red is the boldest of the three, a warm terracotta tone that stands out rather than blends in, suited to a porch or terrace where the light is meant to be noticed as much as used. All three are woven from the same weather resistant synthetic fibre over an aluminium and stainless steel frame.

How It Works

An integrated LED sits inside the woven shade, rated at 24W and 2400 lumens with a warm 2700K colour temperature and a CRI of 90 for accurate colour rendering. Light filters through the fibre weave and the polycarbonate diffuser protecting the light source, so it glows evenly across the whole sphere rather than casting a single bright beam. It's fitted with a Triac dimming driver, so it can be paired with a compatible dimmer switch, and it mounts flush to the ceiling on a compact 120mm ceiling plate. Rated IP54, it's built to withstand splashing water in covered outdoor spots.

Where It Works Best

At 800mm across, the PF/80 suits wider porches, covered terraces and generous verandas, places with room for its scale but not the headroom for a pendant. Its soft, even glow works well over a seating area or an entrance that gets used after dark, and its size means one fitting can do the job that might otherwise take two smaller lights.

Bover was founded in Barcelona in 1996, after a sketch Joana Bover drew for an architect friend turned into an idea for a lighting brand of her own. The company still designs and makes its products in Spain, working out of Cardedeu, just outside Barcelona. Outdoors, it's best known for hand woven synthetic fibre pieces like this one, while indoors it applies a different craft, weaving wood lattice fixtures such as the Dome family from more than 170 individual strips of beech. Both sides of the range share a Mediterranean sensibility. Bover opened a US subsidiary in Atlanta in 2012.
