The Nans S/31.2 XL is the biggest pendant in Bover's Nans S collection, taking the same rounded, hand woven drum shape as the smaller sizes and stretching it to fill a much taller space. The Nans name comes from Cala Nans, a secluded cove near Cadaqués watched over by an old lighthouse, and this XL size carries that same sun bleached, coastal character into porches, terraces and garden rooms where a smaller pendant would look out of scale.

Beige, Brown or Red

Beige keeps things pale and sandy, close to the colour of sun bleached rope, and sits easily against whitewashed walls or pale stone. Brown leans darker and more grounded, closer to natural cane, and works well against brick, stone or aged timber. Red is the boldest of the three, a warm terracotta toned weave that stands out clearly against pale render rather than blending into the background. All three use the same hand woven synthetic fibre over an aluminium and stainless steel frame, so the choice comes down to how much you want the pendant to stand out.

How It Works

An integrated LED sits behind the weave, giving out 1450 lumens from 9.5W at a warm 2700K with a CRI of 90 for accurate colour. It works with Triac dimming, so brightness can be adjusted with a compatible dimmer switch. The drop is adjustable from 620mm up to 2000mm on a 120mm ceiling plate, which is what lets this XL size hang comfortably under a tall porch roof or a double height ceiling rather than sitting too high or too low. Rated IP54, it's built to handle genuine outdoor exposure rather than just a sheltered spot.

Its scale suits taller porches, covered terraces and garden rooms where a standard sized pendant would look lost, hanging as a single statement over an entrance, a covered seating area or a double height outdoor space. Bover was founded in Barcelona in 1996 by Joana Bover, who first sketched the idea for an architect friend's project. The brand still designs and produces its lighting in Spain, headquartered in Cardedeu near Barcelona, with a distinctly Mediterranean design sensibility running through the range. Outdoors, Bover is known for hand woven synthetic fibre pieces like the Nans family, while indoors it works in intricate wood lattice fixtures such as the Dome range, built from more than 170 individually woven strips of beech.
