The Nans S/21 is a medium outdoor pendant with a hand woven synthetic fibre shade wrapped around a compact aluminium and stainless steel frame. It's sized to hang singly over a table or grouped along a beam or pergola, letting light spread softly outward through the weave rather than throwing a hard, direct beam.

Three Woven Finishes

The Nans S/21 comes in beige, brown or red, each a different tone of the same hand woven shade. Beige keeps things soft and neutral, brown reads more natural against planting and dark brick, and red brings a stronger note of colour for a courtyard or pergola that wants to stand out rather than blend in.

How It Works

Light comes from an integrated LED rather than a replaceable bulb, running at 9.5W and 1450 lumens in a warm 2700K white with a CRI of 90 for accurate colour rendering after dark. It works with a Triac dimmer, and the drop is adjustable from 400mm to 2000mm on a 120mm ceiling plate, so it can sit close to head height or hang lower over a table. The metal frame is coated with cataphoresis and epoxy polyester paint before the fibre is woven over it, and the fitting carries an IP54 rating with Class I electrics.

Its compact scale and diffused glow suit covered terraces, porches and pergolas looking for understated Mediterranean character rather than a bright, direct light. It works well as a single statement piece, or hung in twos and threes along a beam for a run of matching light.

Bover began in Barcelona in 1996, when Joana Bover sketched what would become the brand's first piece for an architect friend's project. The company still designs and produces its lighting in Spain, working from Cardedeu near Barcelona, and is known for two very different specialities: hand woven synthetic fibre pieces for outdoor use, like the Nans family, and intricate wood lattice indoor fixtures such as the Dome range, built from over 170 individually woven beech strips. Bover opened a US subsidiary in Atlanta in 2012, carrying that Mediterranean design sensibility further afield.
