A Festoon of Woven Light Inspired by Cala Nans

The Nans Catenary S/16/4L strings four hand woven shades along a single festoon cable, so light spreads from four points rather than one. Like the rest of the Nans collection, it takes its name and mood from Cala Nans, a quiet cove near Cadaqués with its lighthouse and weathered coastal rock.

Three Woven Finishes: Beige, Brown and Red

Beige gives each shade a pale, sandy tone that sits easily against stone paths, render walls or planting. Brown reads warmer and closer to natural cane, at home against timber decking or aged wood furniture. Red is the boldest of the three, a terracotta toned weave that stands out against greenery rather than blending in. All three are woven from the same synthetic fibre over an aluminium and stainless steel frame, so the choice comes down to colour alone.

How It Works

The cable runs 4000mm from the first shade to the last, with 830mm between each one and a 700mm drop for every shade. A further 4000mm of cable continues on from the last shade to the plug, giving enough reach to bring the connection back to a power point. Each shade houses an 8W lamp producing 635 lumens at a warm 2700K, with a CRI of 90 for accurate colour. It comes as standard with four lamps in the same finish, though Bover can supply bespoke colour combinations on request. Rated IP54, it's built for genuine outdoor use. Moonlight Design recommends that all lighting is installed by a registered NICEIC electrician.

Where It Works Best

Its four metre span suits stringing across gardens, courtyards, terraces or outdoor dining areas, anywhere a single pendant wouldn't cover the distance. Hung between two fixed points, such as posts, a pergola or a wall and a tree, it lights a path or seating area with four gentle pools of glow rather than one bright source overhead.

Bover was founded in Barcelona in 1996, after a sketch Joana Bover drew for an architect friend's project grew into a lighting brand of its own. It's still designed and produced in Spain, working out of Cardedeu near Barcelona. Outdoors, Bover is known for pieces built up by hand from woven synthetic fibre, like this one, while indoors it works a different craft, weaving wood lattice fixtures such as the Dome family from over 170 individual strips of beech. Across both, there's a Mediterranean design sensibility running through the range. Bover opened a US subsidiary in Atlanta in 2012.
