A Wide, Wave Formed Disc of Mediterranean Light

The Mediterrània S/105.2 is a broad, disc shaped pendant built from two layered rings of ribbon that curve gently upward at the rim, like a shallow wave caught mid movement. At just over a metre across and only 157mm tall, it sits low and horizontal rather than announcing itself as a bright fixture, and it's one of Bover's most distinctive takes on soft, ambient light.

White or White and Cream: Two Ways to Wear the Wave

In the plain White finish, both ribbon layers share the same crisp, even tone, so the shade reads as one continuous sculptural form. In the White and Cream finish, the inner layer switches to a warmer cream, which shows through the outer white ribbon and gives the underside of the shade a softer, sunlit glow once it's switched on. Both finishes share the same iron, aluminium and polycarbonate construction, so the choice comes down to how warm or how crisp you want the glow to look.

How It Works

Light comes from an integrated LED rated at 17.1W and 2064 lumens, with a warm 2700K colour temperature and a CRI of 90 for accurate colour rendering. It works with a Triac dimming driver, so it can be dimmed to suit the room. The pendant hangs on an adjustable drop, from a minimum of 290mm to a maximum of 2220mm, from a 140mm diameter ceiling plate. Moonlight Design recommends that all lighting is installed by a registered NICEIC electrician.

Where It Works Best

At just over a metre wide, the Mediterrània S/105.2 works best as a single, low hanging piece over a dining table or kitchen island, where its horizontal wave form can be seen from below. Its long adjustable drop also suits a stairwell or double height hallway, and in a living room or bedroom it reads as a calm, wide centrepiece rather than a small central light.

Bover was founded in Barcelona in 1996, when Joana Bover turned a sketch drawn for an architect friend into the start of a lighting brand. The company has stayed based in Cardedeu, just outside Barcelona, where its lighting is still designed and made today. Alongside its hand woven outdoor pieces, Bover has built a name indoors for intricate constructions like this one, including the Dome family's wood lattice shades, made from over 170 individually woven beech strips.
