A Large, Sculptural Silhouette for Outdoor Spaces

The Garota S/02 Large takes Bover's rounded, sea urchin shaped design and scales it up into a proper statement piece. Its hand woven body diffuses light into a soft, even glow rather than a hard beam, and the larger format gives it presence over a bigger table or a taller ceiling than the standard Garota. It's the non LED version of the range, built around a pair of bulbs rather than an integrated light source.

Two Woven Finishes: Graphite Brown and Natural White

Graphite Brown has a dark, earthy tone that sits comfortably against stone, aged timber or dark render, making it feel grounded rather than showy. Natural White reads paler and more contemporary, and works well against lighter stone, painted walls or timber decking. Both finishes are woven from the same synthetic fibre over an aluminium and stainless steel frame, so the choice comes down to how bright or muted you want the fitting to look against its surroundings.

How It Works

Inside the weave, a UV resistant polyethylene globe diffuses light from two E27 bulbs, up to 15W each and not included, so you can choose the exact warmth and brightness you want. It only dims if you fit dimmable bulbs yourself, since there's no separate dimming driver built in. The drop is adjustable from 1080mm to 2290mm on a 120mm ceiling plate, so it can be set to suit a covered terrace, pergola or porch of almost any height. Rated IP66, it's built to handle rain and damp conditions outdoors.

Where It Works Best

Its scale suits generous covered outdoor spaces: terraces, pergolas, garden pavilions and porches where a single pendant needs to hold its own rather than disappear overhead. It works equally well hung low over an outdoor dining table or higher above a seating area, and its woven texture pairs naturally with stone, timber and rendered walls.

Bover started in Barcelona in 1996, after Joana Bover sketched an idea for an architect friend's project that grew into a lighting brand. The company still designs and makes its lighting in Spain, working from Cardedeu near Barcelona. Outdoors, Bover is known for pieces like the Garota, built by hand from woven synthetic fibre, while indoors it applies the same craft to wood, weaving fixtures such as the Dome family from over 170 strips of beech. There's a Mediterranean feel across the range. Bover opened a subsidiary in Atlanta in 2012 to serve the US market.
