A Shape Borrowed From a Sea Urchin

The Garota PF/02 is the flush ceiling version of Bover's Large Garota shade, built for covered outdoor spaces where a hanging pendant isn't practical. Its rounded, faceted form takes its cue from a sea urchin, and rather than throwing a hard beam of light it glows evenly through a hand woven fibre shade.

Two Finishes for Different Exteriors

Graphite Brown is a deep, warm brown weave that sits well against timber ceilings, dark render or stone. Natural White, sometimes listed as Ivory White, is a paler weave that suits light render or coastal exteriors, or anywhere you want the fitting to read softer against its surroundings. Both use the same aluminium and stainless steel frame woven over with synthetic fibre.

How It Works

An integrated LED sits behind a UV resistant polyethylene globe, producing 17.1W and 2064 lumens of warm 2700K light at a 90 CRI, so colours under it stay close to true. The globe diffuses the light through the woven shade rather than letting it shine directly from one point, and the fitting works with a Triac dimmer. It mounts flush to the ceiling on a 120mm diameter plate, with no drop needed, which suits lower covered ceilings where a pendant wouldn't fit comfortably. Moonlight Design recommends that all lighting is installed by a registered NICEIC electrician.

Where It Works Best

Its flush fit and IP66 rating suit loggias, covered terraces, carports and porch ceilings, anywhere with some shelter but where a fully weather resistant fitting is still needed. It works well as a single fitting over a doorway or repeated along a run of covered decking.

Bover was founded in Barcelona in 1996 by Joana Bover, and the brand still designs and produces its lighting in Spain from its base in Cardedeu, near Barcelona. Alongside the intricate wood lattice fixtures it's known for indoors, Bover has built a strong outdoor range around hand woven synthetic fibre pieces like the Garota, carrying the same Mediterranean sensibility outside. The brand opened a US subsidiary in Atlanta in 2012.
