A Hand Woven Lantern for the Garden

The Amphora 01 Medium looks like a piece of woven sculpture that happens to glow. Its rounded, tapered body is entirely hand woven from synthetic fibre, so when the LED inside switches on, the light filters softly through the weave rather than glaring out from one point. Bover designed it to live outdoors, and the shape has become one of the brand's most recognisable pieces.

Two Woven Tones: Light Beige and Rattan Brown

The Light Beige finish has a pale, sandy tone that reads as soft and neutral against stone, timber or planting. The Rattan Brown finish is darker and warmer, closer to the colour of natural cane, and sits comfortably next to aged wood or dark metal furniture. Both are woven from the same weather resistant synthetic fibre over an aluminium and stainless steel frame, so the choice comes down to which tone suits your space rather than any difference in build.

How It Works

An integrated LED sits inside the woven shade, rated at 17.1W and 2064 lumens with a warm 2700K colour temperature and a CRI of 90 for accurate colour rendering. Light diffuses through the fibre weave and the UV resistant polyethylene globe protecting the light source, so it glows evenly rather than throwing a single bright beam. It's available with a Triac dimming driver or as a non dimming version, and comes supplied with a 3 pin plug ready to connect. Rated IP66, it's built to stay outside through wet weather.

Where It Works Best

At 775mm tall, the Amphora 01 Medium has enough presence to work as a freestanding light on a patio, terrace or garden path, and its warm, diffused glow suits evening seating areas as much as a quiet corner near planting. It also works well on a covered balcony, or brought indoors to a living room or hallway that wants a softer, more sculptural alternative to a standard floor lamp.

Moonlight Design has used the Amphora 01 in its own outdoor lighting installations, photographed at dusk on timber decking beside a woven garden chair and an uplit tree. In that setting, its warm glow sits alongside the rest of the garden's lighting rather than competing with it, which is exactly the kind of quiet, atmospheric role it's designed for.

Bover began in Barcelona in 1996, when a sketch Joana Bover drew for an architect friend turned into the idea for a lighting brand. The company has stayed rooted in Spain ever since, designing and manufacturing everything from its base in Cardedeu, just outside Barcelona. Outdoors, Bover is best known for pieces exactly like this one, shapes built up by hand from woven synthetic fibre. Indoors, the brand takes a different craft further, weaving wood lattice fixtures such as the Dome pendant from more than 170 individual strips of beech. Across both, there's a distinctly Mediterranean feel to the designs. Bover expanded to the US in 2012, opening a subsidiary in Atlanta.
