Utopia Swirl Pendant - Gold With Ivory Shade

The Utopia Swirl Pendant brings a soft, sculptural moment to a ceiling. Ribbons of metal twist around each other to form the frame, and three fabric shades sit within it, so the light reads as one continuous piece rather than a cluster of separate fittings. It has real presence over a table or an island without feeling heavy handed.

The gold and ivory finish

This version pairs a gold finished frame with ivory coloured fabric shades, a combination that leans warm rather than stark. The gold picks up ambient light along the curves of the swirl, while the ivory shades soften and diffuse the glow from each bulb. Because the frame is finished by hand, expect gentle variation from one piece to the next, which is part of the character rather than a flaw. The main body is steel, with fabric used for the shades.

How this pendant light works

The fitting takes three 6W LED bulbs with an E14 fitting; bulbs are not included, so you will need to source these separately. It is wired to Class I electrical standards, which means it requires an earth connection, and it can be used with dimmable LED bulbs if you want to adjust the mood of the room, though it is not dimmable with standard non dimmable lamps. The drop is adjustable from around 80cm up to 211cm, so it can be set to suit a range of ceiling heights, and the frame spans roughly 60cm across. At 3.8kg, it's worth checking that your ceiling fixing point is solid enough to take the weight before installation. As with any hardwired ceiling light, we'd recommend having it fitted by a registered NICEIC electrician.

Where it works best

With three to four light sources spread across a wide frame, this pendant suits rooms where you want a real focal point overhead, such as a dining room, living room or hallway with enough height to make use of that adjustable drop. It also works well above a kitchen island, where the spread of light and the sculptural shape both earn their keep. It carries an IP20 rating, so it's designed for dry indoor rooms rather than anywhere damp or steamy.
