The Utopia Sphere brings a cluster of four glass spheres together on a compact semi-flush frame, sitting close to the ceiling rather than hanging down on a long drop. It suits rooms where you want a statement fitting without eating into headroom, and the mix of matt black arms with smoked mirror glass gives it a look that feels considered rather than fussy.

The frame is finished in matt black steel, a flat, non reflective surface that tends to sit well against most wall colours and other black hardware in a room. The four shades are smoked mirror glass, which has a slightly reflective, darkened quality rather than being fully transparent, so the bulb glow comes through softened rather than exposed. As with any glasswork like this, expect very minor variation from piece to piece rather than perfect uniformity.

How this semi-flush ceiling light works

It takes four E14 golf bulbs at 7W each, and bulbs are not included so you will need to add your own when you install it. It is wired to Class II standard, and it can be used with a dimmer switch as long as you fit dimmable bulbs. As with any hardwired ceiling light, we would always recommend having it installed by a registered NICEIC electrician. The fitting itself weighs around 2.5kg, so it is worth checking that your ceiling fixing point is solid enough to take that weight before you mount it.

With an IP20 rating, this is designed for dry, everyday indoor rooms rather than anywhere with moisture in the air. It works well as a central light in a living room or dining room, as a softer option over a bed in a bedroom, or as something a little different in a hallway.
