Utopia Hazy Linear Ceiling Pendant - Matt Black & Smokey Mirror Glass

The Hazy Linear Ceiling Pendant takes the classic multi shade bar fitting and gives it a softer, more atmospheric finish. Five lamp holders run along a slim steel bar, each one dressed in a smoked mirror glass shade, so instead of bare bulbs you get a row of glowing, gently reflective globes. It reads as a single sculptural piece rather than a cluster of individual lights, which is what makes it work so well over a run of worktop or table.

The bar and fittings are done in a matt black steel, which keeps the silhouette quiet and lets the glass do the talking. Each shade is smoked mirror glass, so it has a faint reflective sheen rather than being fully see through, and the tone will vary very slightly from shade to shade as part of the smoking process. Together they give a warm, slightly moody glow rather than a hard, direct one, and the black frame pairs easily with dark cabinetry, brushed metal handles or exposed brick.

How this pendant light works

It takes five G9 LED bulbs, each rated at 3W, and these are not supplied so you can choose the colour temperature you prefer. The fitting is dimmable, but only if you fit dimmable G9 LEDs and pair them with a compatible dimmer switch. It is built to Class II electrical standard, meaning it is double insulated and does not require an earth connection. The drop is adjustable from around 73.5cm up to 117cm, so it can be set to suit ceilings of different heights or dropped lower over a table. As with any hardwired light fitting, we would always recommend having it installed by a registered NICEIC electrician.

Where this linear pendant works best

Its long, bar like shape makes it a natural fit above a kitchen island or dining table, where the row of shades can spread light evenly along the surface below. It also works well as a statement piece in a living room, bedroom or hallway, hung a little lower than usual to bring the glow closer to eye level. As it carries an IP20 rating, it is designed for dry indoor rooms rather than anywhere it might be splashed or exposed to steam.
