TOOY Lilly Side table

The Lilly side table is one of those objects that refuses a simple category — part lamp, part furniture, entirely considered. It sits at floor level, the fabric and micro mesh diffuser of the Lilly collection brought down to the lowest possible position in a room and producing a quality of warm, low level ambient light that no ceiling or table mounted fitting can replicate. The light it casts is indirect, warm and thoroughly enveloping — a glow rather than a source, a quality of illumination that changes the feeling of a room at its base level and creates a warmth that seems to come from the room itself.

As a functional object it works as a side table beside a sofa or armchair, the top surface providing a useful platform for a drink, a book or a small plant while the diffuser below fills the space at foot level with a soft warmth. As a purely ambient element it can be positioned in a corner, beside a bed or in any area of a room where low level light would add depth and atmosphere to the existing lighting scheme.

The beige fabric and black micro mesh diffuser at floor level produces a particularly satisfying quality of light — the warm tones of the fabric enriching the colour of the floor, the rug and the base of the furniture around it in a way that more clinical floor level lighting never achieves. The sand black powder coated metal structure gives the piece a clean, considered profile that suits contemporary interiors without feeling cold or industrial.

Made to order in Tooy's workshop in the Marche, this is a fitting that sits right at the intersection of function and atmosphere — a piece that does a practical job while doing something much more interesting with the quality of the space around it. Tooy's founding in 2015 drew directly on the Giacomozzi family's Gibas heritage, and that depth of manufacturing experience shows in every aspect of how the Lilly side table is made.
