TOOY Legier Suspension Pendant Light - 35cm

Scale is one of the most consequential decisions in pendant lighting, and the 35cm version of the Legier suspension pendant by Corrado Dotti for Tooy makes a very different spatial argument to its smaller sibling. Where the 25cm pendant is a detail, a note in the composition of a room, the 35cm version is a statement — a piece with enough scale to anchor a dining table, define the character of a kitchen or fill a generous ceiling with a quality of light and material presence that commands attention without demanding it.

The hand blown glass diffuser — available in opal white or fumè — is the centrepiece of the fitting and at this size its qualities are fully expressed. The opal white glass at 35cm produces a warm, generous ambient light that fills a room rather than merely accenting it, the rounded form of the diffuser spreading illumination in all directions with an evenness and completeness that makes the space around it feel thoroughly considered. The fumè glass at this scale is a more dramatic choice — the tinted surface reducing and warming the light output in a way that suits intimate dining rooms, sitting rooms and bedrooms where atmosphere matters more than raw illumination.

The sand black powder coated metal structure with its choice of light grey or brushed brass ring detail remains as considered as in the smaller version, but at 35cm the relationship between the metal framework and the glass has more room to breathe. The brushed brass ring at this scale, catching the warm light of the glass above it, is particularly satisfying — a detail that rewards close attention and gives the fitting a quality of material richness that justifies its position as the focal point of a room.

Made to order in Tooy's Marche workshop, conceived by Corrado Dotti whose long collaboration with Tooy has produced some of the most refined and commercially intelligent designs in the contemporary Italian lighting landscape, and executed with the manufacturing precision that the Giacomozzi family's decades of craft production make entirely natural.
