A rise and fall design from 1957
The Saliscendi Pendant in Ruby Red is a rise and fall ceiling light whose glossy lacquered metal body and matching reflective disc move along a pair of cables, travelling apart for a wider spread of light or drawing close together for a tighter, more direct pool over a table.
Ruby red finish
Achille and Pier Giacomo Castiglioni designed the Saliscendi in 1957, and the first two examples were built the following year for the Milan Chamber of Commerce. The two tone PMMA parabolic diffuser is white inside for an even glow and lacquered to match the ruby red body outside.
How it works
This reissue keeps the same handle operated mechanism, now updated with a dimmable LED source. A metal wire casing and acetal resin pulleys keep the lift and lower action smooth, while black cables and conductors stay out of sight. It's fitted with a 36W integrated LED and DALI push dimming.
Where it works best
It suits a kitchen island as readily as a dining table, pulled low and bright for task light or raised and dimmed for evening.
The story behind Stilnovo
Stilnovo was founded in Milan in 1946 by Bruno Gatta, and this reissue of the Castiglioni brothers' 1957 design shows the brand's continued commitment to its own archive.
