Steinel XSolar GL-S Silver - Solar Light

A Solar Sensor Light for Paths and Patios

The Steinel XSolar GL-S in silver is a solar powered outdoor sensor light on a slim post. It needs no mains connection: a built in solar panel charges a rechargeable battery, and the LED switches on when the sensor detects movement. It gives 150 lumens at 3000K warm white, with a 140 degree sensor, so it works well as a garden path light, a driveway light or a low key LED security light for a patio.

Silver Finish with a Black Solar Panel

The housing is aluminium in a silver finish, with a dark solar panel on top and a clear lens over the LEDs below. The panel and the light head swivel separately, so you can tilt the panel towards the sun and aim the light where you want it. The light comes with bases in three lengths, so you can choose the height of the post. The tallest setup is 1178mm high.

How It Works

The solar panel charges a 2500mAh lithium iron phosphate battery during the day. At night a passive infrared sensor switches the light on when it detects movement. It covers 140 degrees and reaches 5 metres across its field of view and 1.5 metres straight towards it. You set the on time from 10 seconds to 30 seconds and the twilight level with the dials on the unit, and the light responds from 2 lux. There is also an optional basic light level, which keeps a low level of light on. Steinel states the battery gives up to 60 days of on demand lighting. The light is Class III and has an IP44 rating, so it is protected against splashing water from any direction.

Where It Works Best

Steinel suggests it for the garden, a terrace or balcony, a courtyard and a driveway. It stands on its own base, so it suits places where running a cable would be difficult, such as along a path or beside a lawn. Place it where the panel gets daylight, as it charges from the sun.
