An Up and Down Sensor Wall Light for Entrances

The Steinel L 910 S in silver is a sensor switched LED outdoor wall light that sends light both upwards and downwards from a slim cylinder. A built in infrared sensor switches it on when someone approaches, with a 180 degree detection angle and a reach of up to 12 metres. It gives 797 lumens from 9.8W at 3000K warm white, which makes it a practical outdoor security light for a front door, a building entrance or a terrace wall.

Silver Aluminium with Opal Covers

This version has a silver aluminium centre band that holds the sensor window, with an opal plastic cover above and below it that spreads the light softly over the wall. The aluminium housing is a good match for a modern exterior, and the two covers give a gentle glow rather than a harsh beam. It is a slim fitting, 85mm x 80mm x 235mm, so it sits neatly beside a door or window.

How It Works

A passive infrared sensor picks up movement and switches the light on. You set the time it stays on from 2 to 15 minutes and the twilight level it responds to from 2 to 20 lux, using the DIP switches behind a small cover on the unit. An optional basic light level keeps a low glow on all night or for half the night, and a manual override holds the light on for 4 hours. Several lights can be connected by cable so they switch on together. For best results Steinel gives an ideal mounting height of 2.2 metres, with a maximum of 2.5 metres. The LED is an integrated Steinel system and is not replaceable. Steinel states a lifespan of 30 years at an average of 4.5 hours a day. It runs from a 220 to 240V mains supply and is a Class II fitting. We always recommend a qualified electrician installs this fitting.

Where It Works Best

Steinel suggests it for front doors, for all round the building and for a terrace or balcony. It is made for surface wiring on a wall, so it suits a house front, a side entrance, a garage wall or a patio. It is rated IP44, so it is protected against splashing water from any direction, and IK03 for impact resistance.
