An Up and Down Sensor Wall Light for Entrances
The Steinel L 910 S is a slim outdoor LED wall light that casts light both upwards and downwards, with a built in motion sensor that switches it on as someone approaches. It gives 797 lumens from 9.8W at 3000K warm white, and the 180 degree sensor reaches up to 12 metres. That makes it a neat sensor wall light for a front door, a building entrance or the front of a house.
Anthracite Aluminium with Opal Diffusers
This version has a textured anthracite aluminium centre band that holds the sensor, with a rounded opal diffuser above and below. The light washes the wall in both directions, so it adds soft light around the door rather than a single hard beam. The anthracite finish suits dark window frames, slate and render. Steinel also makes the L 910 S in other finishes, and the sensor model here is the one with a built in detector. It stands 235mm high, so it stays slim on the wall.
How It Works
A passive infrared sensor detects movement across 180 degrees. Six DIP switches inside the unit set how it behaves. You can choose a reach of 5 or 12 metres, an on time of 2 or 15 minutes, and a twilight setting of 2 or 20 lux. An optional basic light keeps a low level of light on from dusk, either all night or for half the night, and it can be overridden for 4 hours by hand. Several lights can be linked, so they switch on together. The sensor works best at a mounting height of 1.8 to 2.5 metres, with 2.2 metres ideal. The LED is an integrated Steinel system, quoted by Steinel at a 30 year life when used 4.5 hours a day. It runs from a 220 to 240V mains supply and is a Class II fitting. Steinel suggests it for the front door, all round the building and on a terrace or balcony wall. It fixes to a wall with surface wiring. It is rated IP44, so it is protected against splashing water from any direction, and IK03 for impact resistance.
