A Globe Wall Light That Switches Itself On
The Steinel L 585 S in black is an outdoor wall light with a clear glass globe and a built in motion sensor. It is a classic style of security light for a front door or building front: it switches on as someone approaches and off again after a time you choose. The 180 degree sensor reaches up to 10 metres, and the light takes a standard E27 bulb of up to 60W.

The black plastic bracket holds the clear glass globe, with the infrared sensor sitting in a lens on the lower front of the bracket. The Steinel name is moulded into the black housing above the sensor. The sensor tilts through 70 degrees, so you can aim the detection zone without moving the light itself.
How It Works
A passive infrared sensor detects movement across 180 degrees, with a reach of up to 10 metres. You set how long the light stays on, from 8 seconds to 35 minutes, and the twilight level it works at, from 2 to 2000 lux, using the dials on the unit. Steinel gives a mounting height of 1.8 to 3 metres, with 2 metres ideal. The light takes one E27 lamp of up to 60W, which is not included. It runs from a 230 to 240V mains supply and is a Class II fitting. We always recommend a qualified electrician installs this fitting.

Steinel suggests it for all round the building: the front door, a terrace or balcony, a courtyard or a driveway. It fits on a wall with surface wiring and is rated IP44, so it is protected against splashing water from any direction.
