A Traditional Lantern with a Built In Motion Sensor
The Steinel L 15 in black is a classic outdoor wall lantern with a passive infrared sensor fitted below the lamp. It switches on when someone approaches and off again after a time you set. The sensor covers 180 degrees with a reach of up to 10 metres, so it works well as an outdoor security light for a front door or entrance, while keeping a traditional look.
Black Lantern with Clear Panels
The body and top of this version are black plastic, finished with a pointed pinnacle and a tapered bracket that holds the lantern upright on the wall. Four clear panels let the lamp show through, so it looks like an old style carriage lantern by day and gives a soft glow at night. It takes a standard E27 lamp of up to 60W, so you can choose the bulb and brightness you prefer. The lamp is not included.
How It Works
A passive infrared sensor picks up movement and switches the light on. You set how long it stays on, from 8 seconds up to 35 minutes, and the twilight level it works at, from 2 to 2000 lux, using the dials on the unit. The sensor head tilts through 90 degrees so you can aim the detection zone. It works best at a mounting height of 1.8 to 3 metres, with 2 metres ideal. It runs from a 230 to 240V mains supply and is a Class II fitting. We always recommend a qualified electrician installs this fitting.

Steinel suggests it for building fronts and entrances: front doors, a courtyard, a driveway, a terrace or a balcony. It fits on a wall with surface wiring, and it is rated IP44, so it is protected against splashing water from any direction.
