A Black Motion Sensor for Entrances and Driveways
The Steinel IS 130-2 in black is a wall mounted infrared motion sensor that switches a light connected to it. It is not a light itself. It works as an outdoor security light sensor or an indoor one, and it detects movement over 130 degrees with a reach of up to 12 metres. It suits a front door, driveway or courtyard, where you want an existing light to come on when someone approaches.
Black Finish with a Frosted Sensor Lens
The compact plastic housing is finished in black (RAL 9005) with the Steinel name on the front. Below it sits a frosted white sensor lens with a faceted surface, which is what you see from the front once it is fitted. The sensor head turns through 50 degrees and tilts through 90 degrees, so you can aim the detection zone after fitting.
How It Works
A passive infrared sensor with 260 switching zones picks up movement and switches the connected light on. Steinel lists a detection angle of 130 degrees and a reach of up to 12 metres in a radial direction, and 3 metres when someone walks straight towards it. Time and twilight are set with the two potentiometers on the unit, so you choose how long the light stays on, up to 35 minutes, and how dark it must be before it responds. It has sneak by protection, and individual segments of the detection zone can be masked out, which helps to keep a pavement or neighbouring garden from setting it off. The best mounting height is 1.8 to 3 metres, with 2 metres ideal. It runs from a 230 to 240V, 50Hz mains supply and can switch a resistive load of up to 600W. Several sensors can be wired together. We always recommend a qualified electrician installs this product.
Where It Works Best
Steinel suggests it for the front door, all round the building, a terrace or balcony, and a courtyard or driveway. It mounts on a wall with surface wiring, and is rated IP54, so it is protected against splashing water from any direction. It can also be used indoors.
