Steinel IR 180 AP easy Surface wiring - Motion Detector

A Motion Sensor Switch for Indoors and Out

The Steinel IR 180 AP easy is a surface mounted infrared motion sensor switch. It turns a light on when it detects movement and off again after a time you set, so it works as an automatic security light switch for a garage, carport, cellar or outdoor area. The sensor covers 180 degrees with a reach of up to 8 metres, and the housing is splashproof at IP54. Note that this is the sensor switch only. It does not include a light.

Light Grey Housing with a Dome Sensor

The compact square housing is light grey, with a frosted dome sensor lens set into the front and cable entries at the top and bottom. It measures just 82 x 72 x 67mm, so it sits discreetly on a wall. Steinel says it can switch all types of lamp, and it is designed for surface wiring, which means no need to cut into the wall.

How It Works

A passive infrared sensor detects the heat of someone moving across its 180 degree field. Reach is up to 8 metres when movement crosses the sensor's view, and around 3 metres when someone walks straight towards it. You set the time the light stays on, from 5 seconds to 30 minutes, and the twilight level it responds to, from 2 to 1000 lux, using the two dials on the unit. The best mounting height is 0.9 to 2.2 metres, with 1.1 metres ideal. It works on both 2 wire and 3 wire installations, runs from a 220 to 240V mains supply at 50 to 60Hz, and can switch a load of up to 200W. It is a Class II product. We always recommend a qualified electrician installs this product.

Where It Works Best

Steinel positions it for basements, garages, carports and outdoor areas, as well as damp rooms and corridors. Because it is splashproof it can be used under cover outside or in the open, wired to a wall light, floodlight or any other light you want to come on automatically.
