A Traditional Lantern That Lights Itself

The Searchlight Maddrel is a black outdoor wall lantern with a built in motion sensor, so it switches on automatically as soon as it detects movement nearby.

Materials and Finish

The frame is cast aluminium finished in black, with glass panelling on each face giving it a traditional lantern look.

How It Works

It takes a single E27 bulb, not included, and is not dimmable. The motion sensor switches the light on automatically when movement is detected nearby, then off again after a short delay. As a Class I fitting it must be earthed, so installation should be carried out by a qualified electrician.

Rated IP44, the Maddrel suits porches, front doors and driveways, anywhere automatic lighting is useful for seeing your way in after dark or deterring anyone approaching unannounced.

How does the motion sensor work?
A built in sensor detects movement within its range and switches the light on automatically, then switches off again after a short period once movement stops.

Can the sensor be turned off so the light stays on constantly?
This depends on the wiring setup at installation. An electrician can advise on whether a manual override switch can be added alongside the sensor.

What bulb does the Maddrel need?
A single E27 bulb, not included. An LED E27 bulb is recommended for lower running costs and a longer lifespan outdoors.

Is it bright enough to light a whole driveway?
It's designed to light the immediate area around a doorway or path rather than an entire driveway, so for longer drives it works best paired with additional post or bollard lighting.
