A Minimalist Cylinder, Cast in Light

Cyls is a clean aluminium cylinder that fixes to the wall and sends light both upward and downward from a single fitting, adding depth and warmth to a wall without any visual clutter. If you want understated modern lighting with a bit more presence than a single downlight, this up and down version is it.

This version comes in an anodised latte finish, a warm muted taupe brown that sits between beige and bronze, and pairs well with warm wood tones and neutral wall colours. The anodising process makes the surface more resistant to knocks and marks than a standard painted finish, so it holds its look over time. At 15.4cm high and 6.5cm wide, it has a slightly taller, more architectural profile than the down only version of Cyls.

How It Works

• Takes two GU10 bulbs, rated up to 10W each, sold separately
• Fixes directly to the wall over a concealed backplate, hardwired to the mains
• Casts light both upward and downward in soft circular pools above and below the fixture
• Dimmable when fitted with dimmable GU10 bulbs and a compatible dimmer switch
• Class I fitting, so it must be wired to an earthed supply

Where It Works Best

Because it lights both up and down, Cyls works well as a feature in its own right rather than purely as background lighting. The warm latte tone sits comfortably in neutral schemes, alongside wood furniture or terracotta and stone finishes. Try it in a hallway or on a staircase wall, either side of a mirror or console table, or spaced along a living room wall as part of a wider scheme.
