Six Brass Columns, Twelve Points of Light

The Schwung Vesta Legion Medium Flush/Wall Sconce gathers six fluted brass columns into a single stepped block, with an opal globe glowing from the top and bottom of each one. It is the denser, more compact sibling of the Legion Large, and Schwung describes its effect as something like a hearth: warm light cast upwards and downwards from one solid mass. Even as the Medium it is a substantial fitting, standing 1074mm tall, 145mm wide and weighing 11kg, so please measure your wall and check your fixing before ordering.

Choose Your Finish

Seven hand applied finishes are available on the Legion Medium:

• Lacquered Burnished Brass, warm aged brass sealed under lacquer, as shown in the photographs
• Black Gunmetal, a deep charcoal black
• Classic Bronze, a dark mottled bronze patina
• Heritage Bronze, a deeper, warmer bronze patina
• Verdigris Ash, a weathered blue green patina over dark brass
• Rose Ash, a soft pinkish patina with darker undertones
• Shadowed Gild, a smoky, shadowed gold

The patinated finishes in particular vary from piece to piece, and the ribbing of the columns means the same finish can look lighter or darker depending on the angle of the light. Treat the photographs and your screen as a guide, and call us if you would like to talk it through.

How It Works

Twelve Globes on Six Columns

Each fluted column is open at both ends with a lamp in each, so the fitting throws light up the wall and down it at the same time. Twelve 4 to 5W E14 LED G45 globe bulbs are supplied, giving around 2640 lumens at a warm 2200K to 3000K. Replacement E14 lamps up to 10W each can be used, with G45 the largest bulb that fits. The fitting is dimmable with a compatible dimmer; Schwung lists suitable types in the instruction manual.

Wall or Ceiling

The columns sit on a long rounded backplate 15mm deep and the fitting projects 118mm from the mounting surface. It can be fixed vertically to a wall or flat to a ceiling as a linear flush light.

Where It Works Best

The Legion Medium suits a tall feature wall in a living room, a dining room or a hallway, where it can be the only light on that wall. Schwung photographs it in brass against board marked concrete, where the warm columns pull the whole room together. It is also a strong choice for restaurant and hotel walls, and for bedrooms with enough wall height either side of a bed. If the ceiling is high enough to carry something taller, the Vesta Legion Large steps up to eight columns and 1404mm.

Vesta is the Roman goddess of the hearth, and Schwung's Vesta collection is built around warm light from fluted brass tubes. The brand was founded by Rudi Nijssen, a former antiques dealer, and Dominique Sente, a former goldsmith, and its lights are designed in house and made in solid brass in its own workshop in Poland, with the finishes applied by hand.
