The Everyday Scale of the Soap Family

The Soap B7 Medium takes the same seven globe arrangement as its larger sibling and brings it down to the proportions of an ordinary dining room. At around 1.5 metres across and a base height of 84cm, it sits comfortably above a table for six to eight without needing the double height ceilings that the Large version asks for. The globes themselves are exactly the same size as the Large, 25cm each, so what changes here is the spread and the overall footprint of the fitting, not the character of the glass.

Transparent Glass, Same Globes, Tighter Cluster

Because the Medium pulls its seven arms into a shorter span, the globes sit closer together than on the Large, so the cluster of clear glass reads as one dense composition rather than a wide sweep. Each sphere is mouth blown and left transparent, showing the bulb directly, and the small irregularities from hand blowing mean no two globes catch the light in quite the same way.

Choose Your Finish

Available in Black Gunmetal, Lacquered Burnished Brass, or Polished Nickel, hand applied in Poland. At the Medium's tighter scale, the frame is less visible between the globes than on the Large, so the finish shows mostly at the central body and canopy. Black Gunmetal keeps this understated, Lacquered Burnished Brass warms it up, and Polished Nickel sharpens the outline.

How It Works

Fitted with 7 x G4 LED bulbs, 1.6W each, on a low voltage supply, with a 2700K warm white colour temperature. The fitting spans approximately 149cm across and 23cm deep, with a base height of around 84cm, and comes with three extension rods, 15cm, 30cm and 45cm, to adjust the drop. Each glass globe measures roughly 25cm in diameter, and the complete fitting weighs approximately 14.8kg. According to Schwung, it can also be dimmed, provided you use a compatible dimmer switch and bulbs. Lead time is approximately 4 to 5 weeks.

Where It Works Best

This is the version of the Soap B7 built for a well proportioned dining room, a kitchen with an island, or a sitting room where a cluster of glass globes above a seating area creates a warm focal point without overwhelming the space. Standard UK ceiling heights suit it comfortably, which is not always true of the Large.

Made by Schwung

Schwung was founded in 2014 in Namyslow, Poland, by Belgian designer Dominique Sente and Dutch designer Rudi Nijssen. Every fitting is made to order in solid brass and mouth blown glass at their own workshop. The Soap family is one of Schwung's most recognisable, with the glass globe treated as the main event and the brass frame built to hold it in exactly the right place.

What is the difference between the Soap B7 Large and Medium?
Both use seven of the same 25cm mouth blown glass globes, but the Medium has a shorter span of around 149cm and a lower base height of 84cm, against 181cm and 100cm on the Large, making it better suited to standard ceiling heights.

How many extension rods come with it?
Three rods are included, 15cm, 30cm and 45cm, so you can combine them to set the drop to suit your room.
