An Adjustable Brass Spotlight That Follows the Room
The Schwung Ray Flex Spotlight takes the slim solid brass cylinder of the Ray collection and puts it on a jointed arm, so the light can be aimed exactly where it is wanted. Rehang a picture, move a plant or change what sits on the console table and the Ray Flex turns to follow it. A small 70mm canopy sits almost flat against the ceiling and the whole fitting projects only 145mm, so it stays discreet even in a low room.
Choose Your Finish
The Ray Flex comes in five finishes over the same solid brass construction:
- Lacquered Burnished Brass, warm aged brass protected by lacquer
- Black Gunmetal, a near black charcoal tone
- Polished Nickel, bright and reflective
- Classic Bronze, a speckled dark bronze patina
- Heritage Bronze, a deeper chocolate bronze patina
Both bronzes are patinated by hand, so their tone varies piece to piece and from the photographs. The main product shot shows Classic Bronze, and the interior photographs show the fitting in a dark finish against timber and plaster.
How It Works
Tilt and Rotate
The head pivots on a short stem below the canopy. It tilts through up to 90 degrees, from pointing straight down to lying horizontal, and rotates through up to 135 degrees, so a single fitting can light a wall to one side, an object below, or anything in between. Once set it stays put.
Light Output
A 5W GU10 LED bulb is supplied, producing 500 to 550 lumens at 2700K, a warm white that flatters brass, timber and warm toned paintwork. The GU10 base means replacement is simple, with lamps up to 15W, 55mm long and 50mm across accepted. The fitting is dimmable with a compatible dimmer, and Schwung lists the suitable types in the instruction manual.
We recommend that this fitting is installed by a qualified electrician.
Where It Works Best
The Ray Flex is the choice when the thing you want to light is not directly below the ceiling point. Fitted a little way out from a wall it will rake light across a painting, panelling or a textured plaster finish. In a double height hallway a line of them can light a run of artworks from above. It also works well over a kitchen island or a reading chair where the light needs to be angled rather than dropped straight down.
Made By Schwung
Schwung's founders, Rudi Nijssen and Dominique Sente, came to lighting from antiques dealing and goldsmithing respectively, and that background shows in a fitting as pared back as this one. The brass is machined, assembled and finished by hand in Schwung's Polish workshop, and the joint is designed to move smoothly and hold firmly over years of adjustment.

Questions People Ask
How far can the Ray Flex be angled?
The head tilts through up to 90 degrees and rotates through up to 135 degrees, so it can point straight down, straight out to the side, or anywhere between.
What is the difference between the Ray Flex and the Ray Fixed?
They share the same 55mm brass cylinder and GU10 lamp. The Ray Fixed is a rigid downlight with no canopy, while the Ray Flex sits on a 70mm canopy with a pivoting arm so the beam can be aimed.
Is the bulb included and can I change it?
Yes. A 5W GU10 LED is supplied, and it can be swapped for any GU10 up to 15W within the 55mm length and 50mm diameter limit.
Is it suitable for a bathroom?
No. The Ray Flex is IP20 rated and intended for dry indoor rooms only.
Do I need an electrician?
Yes. This is a mains voltage fitting and we recommend installation by a qualified electrician.
