Schwung Odyssey Paris Wall Sconce Light

The Odyssey Paris sits at an interesting crossroads. It is a wall sconce, but it carries itself with the presence of something more. The Paris variant takes the Odyssey silhouette — that distinctive arm sweeping outward from a solid brass backplate — and gives it a particular character rooted in the feeling of Parisian interiors: deliberate, layered, and unafraid of being noticed.

Schwung was founded in 2014 by Belgian designer Dominique Sente and Dutch entrepreneur Rudi Nijssen. Their studio in Namysłów, Poland, works exclusively to order, using solid brass and hand-blown glass. No catalogue runs. No shortcuts. Just fittings made with the care of people who came to manufacturing through a genuine love of objects.

The Paris sconce uses a metal shade rather than a glass globe, giving it a more contained and directional quality. Light pools below and around the shade rather than radiating outward in all directions. This makes it particularly well suited to spaces where you want atmosphere rather than illumination — a reading nook, a bedroom wall, a hallway where a pair of these flanking a mirror would feel entirely at home.

The frame is available in Black Gunmetal, Lacquered Burnished Brass, or Polished Nickel. Each finish is applied by hand in Poland and develops its own character over time. The brass versions in particular carry a warmth that deepens as they settle into a room.

Mount it in a living room beside a sofa, in a bedroom on either side of a headboard, or in a corridor where the light can work as part of the architecture rather than an afterthought. A fitting that knows exactly what it is.

A few things worth knowing

• Clean brass frames regularly using a soft cloth or duster. A damp cloth may also be used — just make sure the fitting is completely dry before switching it back on. Please do not use cleaning agents on any brass parts.
• Clean glass globes regularly with a soft dry cloth, working on the outside only. For marks that need a little more attention, a damp cloth works well. Grease can be lifted gently with a mild glass cleaner.
• All Schwung fittings are made to order and are therefore non-returnable. Moonlight Design recommends that all lighting is installed by a registered NICEIC electrician.
