An Odyssey Sconce With a Directional Beam
The Odyssey Paris sits apart from the rest of the Odyssey family because it swaps the signature glass cloche for a solid metal shade. The result is a wall light that behaves differently: rather than diffusing light in every direction, the shade directs it downward and outward in a contained pool, giving the fitting a more architectural, considered presence on the wall. The brass arm sweeps out from a compact backplate in the familiar Odyssey shape, but the metal shade gives this variant a sharper, more tailored character, one that feels at home in interiors with a bit of Parisian polish to them.
Choose Your Finish
The Paris is available in three frame finishes, each hand applied at Schwung's workshop in Poland. Black Gunmetal gives the sconce a darker, more graphic outline that reads almost like a fitting from an old apartment building. Lacquered Burnished Brass leans warmer, the kind of finish that deepens with age and catches candlelight well in the evening. Polished Nickel is the coolest and most reflective of the three, a good match for interiors built around chrome, glass and pale stone. All three share the same solid brass construction underneath, so the choice comes down entirely to how you want the light to sit against your walls.
How It Works
The Paris takes a single E14/E12 LED bulb (supplied), rated up to a maximum of 15W, and is dimmable only with compatible electronic dimmers (ELV or trailing edge types, not standard leading edge dimmers). It is rated IP20, so it is intended for dry indoor rooms rather than bathrooms or anywhere exposed to moisture. The fitting measures approximately 305mm in height by 105mm in width, projecting around 142mm from the wall, and weighs approximately 2kg. It comes complete with the wall bracket, brass arm and metal shade ready to wire in.
Where It Works Best
Because the light is directional rather than diffused, the Paris works well anywhere you want a defined pool of light rather than ambient glow: either side of a bed where it can double as reading light, flanking a hallway mirror, or spaced along a corridor wall where the shade's shape becomes part of the architecture. It also suits living rooms where a pair mounted either side of a chimney breast or sofa can do the job a table lamp would otherwise do, without taking up any surface space.
Made by Schwung
Schwung was founded in 2014 in Namyslow, Poland, by Belgian designer Dominique Sente and Dutch designer Rudi Nijssen. Every fitting, including the Paris, is made to order at the Namyslow workshop rather than produced in batches, and the brass components are hand finished before assembly. According to Schwung, this made to order approach is what allows them to offer three distinct frame finishes on a single design without holding stock of each.

Questions People Ask
Can the Odyssey Paris be used in a bathroom?
No. It is rated IP20, which means it is designed for dry indoor rooms only, not bathrooms or other areas exposed to moisture.
Which finish suits a warmer interior?
Lacquered Burnished Brass is the warmest of the three finishes and tends to suit interiors with wood, linen or terracotta tones, while Polished Nickel suits cooler, more contemporary palettes.
Can I dim the Odyssey Paris?
Yes, but only with a compatible electronic dimmer (ELV or trailing edge). Standard leading edge dimmers are not compatible with the supplied LED bulb.
