A Glass Globe Sconce With a Built In Reading Light
The Schwung Adrion Libris Wall Sconce starts with the brand's familiar Adrion form, a 150mm hand blown glass globe sitting on a rounded brass backplate, and adds a slim adjustable reading light below it. The globe gives the room a soft, even glow; the small brass cylinder underneath gives you a focused beam to read by. It is a compact fitting, 318mm tall and 105mm wide, designed for the wall beside a bed, a sofa or a desk where two kinds of light are wanted from one point.
Choose Your Glass and Finish
The Adrion Libris is offered with three Schwung glass types and three metal finishes.
- Opal Matte Glass: triplex opal glass, acid etched on the outside, which hides the bulb completely and gives the most even, glare free light
- Marble Matte Glass: a milky glass with soft internal veining, so the lit globe has a gently shifting, cloudy pattern
- Dries Ribbon Glass: clear borosilicate glass with fine ribs that throw a pattern of light and shadow onto the wall when the bulb is lit
- Lacquered Burnished Brass, warm aged brass sealed under lacquer
- Black Gunmetal, a deep charcoal black
- Polished Nickel, a bright, cool mirror finish
The photographs show all three glass types on a dark bronze toned backplate. Finishes are applied by hand and vary in tone from piece to piece, and the marble glass in particular differs from globe to globe because the veining forms during blowing.
How It Works
Globe Above, Spot Below
Inside the globe sits a 4W E14 LED G45 bulb, supplied, which lights the glass evenly. Below it, mounted on the backplate, a 20mm brass cylinder holds a 3W G9 LED, also supplied, and pivots through up to 90 degrees of tilt and 135 degrees of rotation. The two together give around 440 lumens at a warm 2200K to 3000K.
Fixing and Dimming
The pill shaped backplate is 105mm wide and 7mm thick, and the fitting projects around 161mm from the wall at the globe. It can be dimmed with electronic dimmers only, ELV or trailing edge; leading edge dimmers should not be used.
We recommend that this fitting is installed by a qualified electrician.
Where It Works Best
Either side of a bed is the obvious home: the globe replaces a bedside lamp and the spot replaces a reading light, with nothing on the bedside table. It also suits a reading nook, a hotel guest room or the wall above a desk. In Schwung's photographs the Adrion sits in a walnut panelled restaurant and a travertine bedroom, and the opal globe reads equally well in both.
Made By Schwung
The Globe collection, of which Adrion is part, is Schwung's signature pairing of mouth blown glass and solid brass. The brand was founded by Rudi Nijssen, a former antiques dealer, and Dominique Sente, a former goldsmith, and every piece is made and finished by hand in its workshop in Poland.

Questions People Ask
What is the difference between the Adrion Libris and the Adrion wall sconce?
The Adrion Libris adds a small adjustable reading light below the glass globe, on a taller backplate. The standard Adrion sconces have the globe alone.
Which glass gives the softest light?
Opal Matte. It is acid etched on the outside and fully diffuses the bulb, so the globe glows evenly with no visible hotspot. Dries Ribbon glass is clear, so the bulb is visible and it casts patterned shadows instead.
Can the reading light be aimed?
Yes. It tilts through up to 90 degrees and rotates through up to 135 degrees, so it can be pointed at a book, a bedside table or the floor.
Are bulbs included?
Yes. A 4W E14 LED globe bulb and a 3W G9 LED are supplied, and both can be replaced with standard lamps.
Is it dimmable?
Yes, with an electronic ELV or trailing edge dimmer only.
Can I fit it myself?
This is a mains voltage wall light and we recommend installation by a qualified electrician.
