A Statement Piece for Rooms with Presence

The Adrion Large is the boldest sconce in Schwung's Adrion family, and the one built to hold a wall on its own. A long oval brass backplate carries a single glass globe set into its lower half, a composition that reads as sculpture rather than a conventional arm and shade wall light. At 380mm tall it has genuine vertical scale, drawing the eye upward and making a room feel taller than it is. Where the Medium and Small versions of the Adrion are built to work well in pairs or groups, the Large is confident enough to stand alone.

Choose Your Finish

Every Adrion Large is made to order in one of three hand blown glass types and three brass frame finishes, giving nine possible combinations. Opal Matte glass fully diffuses the light for a warm, even glow with no visible glare, and is the most adaptable choice for everyday rooms. Marble Matte glass has a softly veined, milky internal pattern that adds depth and a sense of movement to the light it casts. Dries Ribbon glass is drawn into fine threads during blowing, and refracts light into delicate, intricate shadows, the most artisanal and characterful of the three. Frames are available in Lacquered Burnished Brass, for a warm aged tone, Black Gunmetal, for a darker contemporary look, and Polished Nickel, for a cooler, brighter finish.

How It Works

Each fitting takes a single 5W E14/E12 bulb, included, rated up to a maximum of 10W and producing 450 to 500 lumens at a warm 2700K. It is compatible with electronic dimmers only (ELV or trailing edge). The Adrion Large has an IP20 rating, so it is intended for dry indoor rooms rather than bathrooms or other zoned wet areas. The backplate measures 380mm high by 105mm wide, with the 150mm diameter glass globe sitting within it and the whole fitting projecting 161mm off the wall. It weighs 2.1kg and wires directly to the mains.

Where It Works Best

Its scale makes the Adrion Large suited to hallways with high or double height ceilings, generous living room walls either side of a fireplace, or flanking a bed in a principal bedroom where a single fitting on each side is enough. It also works well as the sole light source on a landing or stairwell wall where a smaller sconce would look lost.

Made by Schwung

Schwung was founded in 2014 in Namyslow, Poland, by Belgian designer Dominique Sente and Dutch designer Rudi Nijssen. According to Schwung, every Adrion fitting is made to order at the Namyslow workshop, with the frame cast and finished in solid brass and the glass mouth blown by hand, so no two globes are ever perfectly identical.

Questions People Ask

Can the Adrion Large be mounted horizontally as well as vertically?
Yes, the oval backplate is designed to work in either orientation, so it can be mounted with the long axis running up the wall or across it.

Do I need a dimmer switch to use it?
No, the Adrion Large works on a standard switched circuit. If you do want to dim it, use an electronic (ELV or trailing edge) dimmer, since the fitting is not compatible with other dimmer types.

Is this sconce suitable for a bathroom?
No, it has an IP20 rating, which means it is designed for dry indoor rooms rather than bathrooms or other areas exposed to moisture.
