The Wakefield takes its cues from Arts and Crafts porch lanterns, a stepped roof cap sitting above a boxy frame of clear seeded glass. This is the large three light version, the biggest in the range and the one built to anchor a porch or a wide entrance rather than sit quietly beside a door.

The Earth Black Finish

Earth Black is a deep matte black across the whole composite frame, with no gloss to catch glare in direct sun. Look closely at the corners and you can see the fitting is built as a frame within a frame, an inner glass surround set slightly back from the outer black uprights, which gives the lantern real depth rather than a flat box shape. The glass itself is clear but seeded, meaning it carries small trapped bubbles that scatter the light rather than a plain sheet of glass.

How It Works

Three E14 bulbs sit inside the glass panels and are not supplied. The fitting is rated IP44 and built from a weather resistant composite, so it copes with direct rain and coastal exposure rather than needing a sheltered spot. It is dimmable if you fit dimmable bulbs, and as a Class I fitting it needs an earth connection, so have it wired in by a qualified electrician rather than fitting it yourself.

Where It Works Best

At 43.3cm tall this is the largest of the three Wakefield wall lanterns and the one suited to a substantial front door, a porch, or either side of a garage where you want real scale. The single light medium and small versions in the same range are considerably more compact, at 35.7cm and 28cm tall, and suit a narrower doorway or a side entrance where a large three light lantern would overwhelm the space.
