Where the brushed brass version of Gotham warms a room, this Imperial Silver finish sharpens it. The same circular frame and four shade design, but here it is polished to a bright silver with black fabric shades that catch a surprising flash of gold on the inside once the lamps are on. It suits a room that wants a bit of edge, a dining space with dark furniture or a living room already working in black and metal.

Imperial Silver With A Gold Lined Surprise

Look closely and the black shades are lined in gold rather than the plain white lining you might expect, so the light that spills from underneath each shade has a warm cast even though the frame itself is a cool, bright silver. It is a small detail but it changes the mood of the room, cooler metal, warmer light. The same design is also made in Brushed Brass with pale cream shades, a softer, quieter alternative if black is too strong for the space.

How It Works

Four G9 LED lamps, each rated at 3W, sit inside the ring and are not supplied with the fitting. It is dimmable if you fit dimmable G9 bulbs, and it carries a Class I electrical rating, so an earth connection is required. As with any hardwired ceiling fitting, we would always recommend it is installed by a qualified electrician rather than fitted as a DIY job.

Where It Works Best

The frame measures 57.2cm high and 77.5cm across, with each individual shade measuring 16.5cm in diameter, and the chain gives a drop of between 66cm and 187.9cm so it can be hung low over a table or higher in a taller room. For a single large shade rather than four smaller ones in the same silver and black finish, the Gotham pendant covers that brief and sits a little more compactly at 58.4cm across.

Kept In The Family

Ira Phillips joined Quoizel in 1964 as Director of Merchandising and Sales, then bought the company outright in 1986. Decades on it is still privately held and still family run, a continuity that is unusual for a lighting brand of this size. The business had already moved on from its 1930s Manhattan roots in oil lamps to the hardwired chandeliers and pendants it makes today, and the Phillips family have kept that transition going ever since, right through to ranges like Gotham.

Is the lining inside the shades really gold? Yes, the black fabric shades have a gold interior lining, which gives the light a warmer tone than the silver frame might suggest.

What is the difference between this and the brushed brass version? Same frame and shade layout, different finish. This one is a polished Imperial Silver with black gold lined shades, the brass version has a softer satin finish with cream shades.

Does it need professional installation? Yes, it is a Class I hardwired ceiling fitting requiring an earth connection, so it should go in via a qualified electrician.
