An Open Ring Around An Old Fashioned Bulb
There is no shade here at all, just a wide polished ring of metal circling a single exposed bulb, so the fitting reads more like a piece of wall sculpture than a conventional light until you switch it on. It is a genuinely simple idea, done with a clean, well finished ring rather than anything fussy.
The Imperial Silver Finish
This version is finished in Imperial Silver, a bright, polished tone closer to chrome than a matte pewter, and it catches the light along the curve of the ring in the photographs. The same design is also made in a Western Bronze finish, a flatter, darker tone, if you want the ring itself to recede rather than shine.
How It Works
This is a hardwired wall light, so it needs fitting by a qualified electrician. It takes one E27 bulb, not supplied, held centrally on a short arm within the ring. Because the bulb is fully exposed rather than hidden behind glass, it is worth choosing a decorative filament style bulb, since you will see it directly rather than just its glow. Fit a dimmable E27 bulb and the light will dim, since the fitting has no dimming module of its own. It is wired to Class I, so it must be properly earthed.
Where It Works Best
At 25.4cm across and only 10.2cm deep, it sits close to the wall and suits a spot where you want a feature of light rather than broad room illumination, a hallway, above a console table, or in a pair flanking a mirror. Next to its Western Bronze sibling this Imperial Silver version reads brighter and more contemporary, so it suits a cooler, more industrial scheme rather than a warm, traditional one.
Made In Manhattan, Still Family Run
Quoizel started out in Manhattan in 1930, founded by Michael Chaikin as a small lamp company whose first products were hurricane lamps that burned oil rather than electricity. There is something fitting about a design like this one, built around an exposed vintage style bulb, coming from a company that began before electric lighting was standard in every home. It remains privately owned today, run for decades by the Phillips family after Ira Phillips bought the business in 1986.

Questions People Ask
Does it come with a bulb? No, you will need to add your own E27 bulb. Since the bulb is fully visible, a vintage style filament bulb suits the design best.
Can it be dimmed? Yes, if you fit a dimmable E27 bulb. The fitting itself has no dimmer built in.
What is the difference between this and the Western Bronze version? Only the finish, this one is a bright, polished Imperial Silver, the other a flatter, darker Western Bronze. Size, wiring and bulb fitting are identical.
