Brass With Real Weight Behind It

Some outdoor lanterns look right for about a year and then start looking cheap. This one does not, because it is built from solid brass rather than a lacquered coating, so the shine you see in the photos is the metal itself, not a finish that can wear through.

Choosing Your Finish

This version comes in Polished Brass, and in the photographs it reads as a bright, warm gold tone with a proper mirror sheen across the curved cap and the frame around each pane of glass. It sits at the opposite end of the range from the Aged Copper option, which is duller and matte by comparison and will continue to change colour outdoors. Six curved panels of clear bevelled glass wrap the lantern body in both finishes, so the shape stays familiar even as the metal changes.

How It Works

It takes a single E27 LED bulb, which is not included, and will dim if you fit a dimmable LED. As a Class I fitting it needs a proper earth connection, and since it is hardwired we would always suggest calling in a qualified electrician rather than doing it yourself.

This is the medium sized Newbury wall lantern, 35.6cm tall and 22.9cm wide, a step up in both height and presence from the small version in the same range. It works well either side of a front door or garage, or spaced along a boundary wall, somewhere it can be seen properly rather than tucked into a corner.

The Phillips Family Behind Quoizel

Quoizel has been privately owned for almost its whole history. Michael Chaikin founded the company in 1930, and Ira Phillips joined in 1964 as Director of Merchandising and Sales before buying the business outright in 1986. Is this the same size as the Aged Copper Newbury lantern? Almost. Both medium lanterns share the same 35.6cm height, though this brass version is slightly wider at 22.9cm against 20.3cm for the copper one.

What bulb do I need? One E27 LED bulb, bought separately.

Does it need an electrician to fit? Yes, it is a hardwired Class I fitting, so it should be installed by a qualified electrician.
