A Traditional Glow For A Covered Ceiling

This is a flush fitting rather than a wall lantern, made to sit tight against a porch or canopy ceiling where a hanging light would be knocked or in the way. It keeps the same faceted glass and brass detailing as the rest of the Newbury range, just reshaped into an octagonal dome.

Choosing Your Finish

Finished in Polished Brass, it shows a bright gold tone with a mirror shine across the octagonal frame in the photos, with clear bevelled glass panels on every angled face. Light from the lamps inside catches and refracts through each pane, so even switched off the glass has some sparkle to it in daylight. This shape is not offered in the darker Aged Copper finish used elsewhere in the Newbury range, this fitting comes in Polished Brass only.

How It Works

It takes three E14 LED bulbs, none of which are supplied, so budget for three when you order. The fitting will dim if all three bulbs fitted are dimmable LEDs. It is a Class I fitting and needs a proper earth connection, and being hardwired into the ceiling, it should be installed by a qualified electrician.

Where It Works Best

Sitting flush at 20.3cm high and 38.7cm across, this is built for a covered ceiling rather than an open wall, a porch roof, a car port, or an entrance canopy. Where the wall lanterns in this range throw light out sideways from a single bulb, this fitting spreads a wider pool of light downward from three, so it suits a bigger covered area such as a porch you actually stand under rather than just pass by.

From Oil Lamps To Hardwired Fittings

Quoizel began in 1930 making oil burning hurricane lamps, at a time before most houses were reliably wired for electric light. As homes electrified over the following decades, the company moved with them, from portable oil lamps into hardwired chandeliers, pendants, sconces and ceiling fittings much like this one. The scrollwork and glasswork carried over from those early lamps, even once the light source inside had changed completely.

How many bulbs does it need? Three, all E14 fitting, and none are included.

Can this go on an open, exposed ceiling? It is rated IP44, which protects against splashing water, so it belongs under a porch roof or canopy rather than somewhere fully open to the weather.

Does it come in the copper finish too? No, this particular flush fitting is only offered in Polished Brass.
