A Ceramic Body with a Sea Glass Glaze

Monteverde swaps the metal or glass base you might expect from a Quoizel lamp for a tall, fluted ceramic column finished in a crackled sea green glaze, flecked with rust brown breaks in the glaze where the underlying colour shows through. Aged brass fittings collar the neck and foot, and the whole thing sits on a squared brass plinth rather than a round one.

The Glaze Colour and the Shade Fabric

This lamp is offered in one combination, the ceramic glaze shown, described by Quoizel as a green glaze, paired with an Aged Brass metal finish and a soft, taupe toned bell shade in a crushed silk style fabric. In the photos the ceramic reads more sea green or teal than a true green, with visible crackle and colour variation typical of glazed ceramic, so expect some tonal movement between lamps rather than a completely flat, uniform colour.

How It Works

Monteverde takes a single E27 bulb, not supplied. It will dim if a dimmable bulb is fitted and run through a compatible dimmer switch, though the lamp has no dimmer built in. Wiring is Class I, so it needs an earthed socket, and it comes with a 2 year guarantee.

Where It Works Best

At 86.4cm tall with a 45.7cm shade, this is a genuinely large lamp, better suited to the floor beside an armchair, a console table or a wide sideboard than a small side table, where it would dwarf the surface. Quoizel lists it for living rooms, bedrooms, dining rooms and hallways. The single bulb and soft fabric shade give a gentler, more diffuse light than the pierced glass shades used elsewhere in the Quoizel range, so it works well as an ambient lamp rather than a task light.
