A Sharp Shine in Polished Chrome

Polished Chrome takes the same wire cage design as the rest of the Mixon range and gives it a hard, bright shine instead of a brushed or aged surface. It is the most reflective finish in the collection, and it throws back light rather than absorbing it, which suits a cleaner, more contemporary room.

Choosing Your Finish

All five Mixon finishes are built on the same cage, so it is really a question of shine and tone. Polished Chrome is the brightest and coolest of the range, sharper than brushed nickel and a world away from the warm brushed brass and weathered brass options. If your fittings, taps and handles are already chrome, this is the one that will match rather than clash.

How It Works

The Mixon is a semi flush ceiling fitting, so it sits close to the ceiling rather than hanging on a rod or chain. Inside the cage is a single E27 lamp holder, with the bulb not supplied, so you can choose anything from a plain LED to a full Edison style filament bulb depending on how much of the cage effect you want. It is wired to Class I, which means an earth connection is required, and as a hardwired fitting we would recommend a qualified electrician carries out the installation. Dimming is only possible if you fit a dimmable bulb on a matching dimmer circuit.

Where It Works Best

Being a single, fairly small light, it works best positioned with intent, over a breakfast bar, in a hallway, beside a bed, or repeated along a run of ceiling rather than used alone in a large space. Every finish in the Mixon family shares this same size, light count and fixing type, so the choice between them is purely about which metal tone suits the room, and Polished Chrome is the one for a sharper, more reflective finish.

Quoizel Since the Move to Charleston

In 1996 Quoizel moved its headquarters, manufacturing and distribution out of New York and into a 305,000 square foot facility near Charleston, South Carolina, where the company still operates today. That move brought a slower, Southern design sensibility into a range that had started out in a fast moving Manhattan lamp business decades earlier, and the design studio in Charleston still draws on that low country setting when developing new fittings.

Does Polished Chrome show fingerprints more than other finishes? It is the shiniest finish in the range, so marks can show more readily than on the brushed or aged options, though it wipes clean easily.
