The Mixon is an exposed bulb design at heart, built around a strong wire cage rather than a shade. In Brushed Nickel it takes on a cool, quiet grey tone that sits back and lets the filament bulb inside do the talking, rather than drawing attention to the fitting itself.

Choosing Your Finish

This cage comes in five finishes, all sharing the same steel frame and single bulb layout. Brushed Nickel is the coolest of the five, a satin grey that reads as understated and modern next to the warmer brushed brass and weathered brass options, and slightly softer than the mirror shine of polished chrome. If you are working with grey, white or cooler toned schemes, or you already have nickel handles and taps in the room, this is the finish that will disappear into the background rather than stand out.

How It Works

Mixon fixes flush to the ceiling as a semi flush fitting, with the cage hanging just below the mounting plate rather than on a drop rod or chain. It runs on a single E27 lamp, not included, so you choose your own bulb depending on how much of that cage effect you want to show off. It is a Class I fitting, meaning it must be properly earthed, and because it is hardwired we would recommend having it fitted by a qualified electrician rather than as a DIY job. It will dim, but only when paired with a dimmable bulb on a suitable dimmer circuit.

Where It Works Best

As a single small light, it suits close, considered spots rather than open expanses: above a kitchen island seat, in a hallway, beside a bed, or run in a short row above a run of cabinets. Every Mixon finish shares this same scale, one light, one E27 lamp, one semi flush fixing, so choosing between them comes down to which metal tone the room needs rather than any difference in size or output. Quoizel, The Family Behind It

Quoizel has stayed in the hands of two families since it started trading in 1930. Ira Phillips joined the company in 1964 as Director of Merchandising and Sales, and by 1986 he had bought it outright, keeping it privately held rather than selling it on to a larger group. That continuity from founder to the Phillips family has run right through the company's move from small oil lamps to the wired chandeliers, pendants and fittings, including cage lights like the Mixon, that it now makes.

Is this the same size as the other Mixon finishes? Yes, every finish in the range shares the same 27.1cm height and single light layout, only the metal tone changes.

What bulb do I need? A single E27 lamp, ideally an Edison style filament bulb to suit the cage, though it is not supplied with the fitting.

Will it work in a bathroom? We would not recommend it. There is no water resistant rating on this fitting, so it is better suited to living areas, kitchens, hallways and bedrooms.
