A Prairie School Glow for the Reading Corner
The Maybeck floor lamp carries a conical shade built from dozens of individually cut art glass pieces, laid out in the angular, radiating lines of early twentieth century Prairie School design. Stood beside an armchair or at the end of a sofa, it throws a warm, mottled light through the glass rather than a flat white glow.
One Valiant Bronze Finish, No Two Shades Alike
The metal base and stem come in a single finish, Valiant Bronze, a dark bronze with warm red undertones visible where the light catches the tapering column and block feet. The shade above it is where the real variation sits. Every panel is hand selected art glass in blue grey, amber, cream and small deep red accents, and because each sheet of glass is unique, the exact pattern of colour on your lamp will differ slightly from the next one off the shelf.
How It Works
This lamp takes two E27 bulbs, not supplied, controlled independently by the two pull chains beneath the shade. It is dimmable if you fit dimmable bulbs, though the fitting itself has no built in dimmer. It is Class I, so it must be earthed, which is already handled by its three pin plug. Being a freestanding floor lamp, there is no hardwired installation involved, it simply plugs in.
Where It Works Best
Quoizel suggests the Maybeck floor lamp for living rooms, bedrooms, dining rooms and hallways, anywhere you want a pool of light at seated height without giving up a side table to it. At 157.8cm tall it stands roughly a metre taller than the matching Maybeck table lamp, so choose this version where floor space is available but surface space is not, and choose the table lamp where the reverse is true. The semi flush ceiling version of the same design lights a whole room from above rather than one corner of it.
Quoizel's Tiffany Glass Heritage
Quoizel built a large part of its reputation on Tiffany style stained glass work, a specialism that started with table lamps and grew to cover chandeliers, pendants and floor lamps like this one. The Maybeck shade is a direct descendant of that glasswork tradition, cut and leaded by hand rather than printed or moulded, which is why the colour runs unevenly through each panel exactly as old stained glass does.

Questions People Ask
How does this compare in size to the Maybeck table lamp? The floor lamp is 157.8cm tall against 62.9cm for the table lamp, so it is built to stand on the floor beside seating rather than sit on a surface.
What bulbs does it need? Two E27 bulbs, not supplied. Fit dimmable bulbs if you want to dim it, since the lamp has no dimmer of its own.
Does it need an electrician to install? No. It is a freestanding plug in lamp, so it just needs a nearby socket, there is no hardwiring involved.
