The Marblehead, Scaled Down For A Narrower Door
This small Marblehead wall lantern keeps the same window like arches and rain textured glass as the rest of the range, just built to a more compact size. One bulb sits behind the glass, throwing a modest pool of light rather than a bright wash, which suits a narrower porch or a side entrance well.
The Bronze Finish, Up Close
Palladian Bronze is the only finish available at this size. Up close the photographs show it sitting closer to black than brown, with the bronze only catching the light along the ribs of each arch and the edge of the domed cap. The seeded glass panels are properly textured rather than smooth, breaking the single bulb's light into a soft, dappled glow.
How It Works
A single E27 bulb sits inside, not supplied, so you will need to add your own. The fitting is Class I, so it must be earthed correctly, and it will dim provided a dimmable bulb is fitted, since the lantern carries no dimming circuitry of its own. It carries an IP44 rating, giving solid protection against wind driven rain and general outdoor damp. As a hardwired fitting it should be installed by a qualified electrician.
Where It Works Best
At 28.1cm tall and 17.8cm wide, this is the smaller of the two Marblehead wall lanterns, next to the medium version at 36.7cm tall and 22.9cm wide. Both take a single E27 bulb and project outward on a wall bracket, unlike the Marblehead flush fitting, which sits flat to a ceiling and runs two bulbs. This small size suits a narrow porch, a side door, or a pair spaced either side of a modest opening where a larger lantern would crowd the brickwork.
Still A Family Concern
Ira Phillips joined Quoizel in 1964 as Director of Merchandising and Sales and bought the company outright in 1986. Decades on it remains privately owned and family run, a continuity that stretches back to founder Michael Chaikin and through to the Phillips family today, long after the company's early years making oil lit lamps in Manhattan.
