Stained Glass On A Standard Lamp Scale

The Larissa floor lamp carries a genuine handmade art glass shade, built panel by panel in deep reds, ambers and jewel blues around a repeating floral pattern. Lift the shade off the lamp entirely and you would still recognise it as a piece of stained glass work in its own right, it just happens to sit on a tall bronze pole with two pull chain switches underneath.

Choosing Your Finish

The base and pole are finished in a deep Vintage Bronze, closer to a near black bronze than a bright metallic, which keeps the visual weight down at the shade and lets the coloured glass do the talking. There is no alternative finish on this particular design, so the decision here is really about the shade colours themselves, which run from deep red poppy petals through soft cream and pale blue glass at the edges.

How It Works

Two E27 bulbs are needed, not supplied, controlled by the twin pull chains beneath the shade so you can run one or both depending on how much light you want. Both are dimmable if you fit dimmable bulbs. This is a Class I fitting and needs an earth connection through the plug. As a floor standing lamp there is no hardwired installation required, just stand it, fit the bulbs and plug in.

Where It Works Best

At 157.5cm tall this is a proper floor lamp, meant to stand beside a sofa or reading chair rather than tuck into a corner, and the weighted base keeps it steady at that height. It suits a living room or bedroom where the glass can be appreciated at eye level when seated. Its table lamp sibling, the Larissa table version, carries the same glass pattern and finish at a fraction of the height for a nightstand or console instead.

A Glass Making Tradition

Quoizel built a large part of its reputation on Tiffany style stained glass work, a specialism that grew out of its early decades as an American lamp maker and eventually extended from table lamps into floor lamps, pendants and wall fittings. The Larissa sits squarely in that tradition, each shade cut and leaded by hand rather than moulded in one piece, which is why no two shades are ever perfectly identical.
