What Renaissance Copper Actually Looks Like Overhead

This Laguna pendant comes in one finish, Renaissance Copper, and from below it reads as a dark bronzed cage holding two curved mica panels the colour of weak tea. Running through the centre is a stripe of small glass tiles in copper, rust and soft green tones, lit from within so the pattern shows even in daylight. Underneath sits a plain frosted glass diffuser, which softens the light before it reaches the room below. The suspension rod above the shade is finished in the same dark bronzed metal.

How It Works

Four E27 bulbs are needed and are not included, so you can choose the warmth to suit the mica glow. Wiring is Class I, meaning it needs an earthed connection, and as a ceiling fitting it should be installed by a qualified electrician. Dimming works only if you fit dimmable bulbs yourself, since there is no dimmer built into the fitting. The drop is adjustable between 29cm and 119cm using the rods supplied, so it can be set to sit low over a table or higher in a taller room.

Where the Laguna table lamp and floor lamp sit at fixed heights, this pendant's adjustable rods let you set the drop to suit the room, and its four lamps give noticeably more spread of light than the single lamp mini pendant version.

Quoizel, The Company Behind It

Quoizel started in 1930 in Manhattan as a small lamp company, and its earliest products were not electric at all but hurricane lamps that burned oil. As electric wiring spread through American homes the company moved with it, from portable oil lamps into hardwired chandeliers, pendants and wall lights, a shift that shaped the kind of ceiling fittings it still makes today. It remains privately owned, which is unusual for a lighting company of its size.
