A Floor Lamp With Its Own Quiet Glow
Switch on the Laguna floor lamp and the whole shade seems to catch fire gently, amber light spilling through a ring of mica the colour of old parchment. It stands tall enough to read by in a corner chair, and the banded tile stripe running around its middle gives it real presence even switched off.
Getting To Know The Renaissance Copper Finish
This Laguna floor lamp comes in a single finish, Renaissance Copper, and the name undersells it slightly. In the photographs the frame reads as a deep bronzed metal, almost black in low light, while the horizontal tile band running through the centre of the shade carries genuine copper and warm brown tones that catch differently depending on the angle you view it from. The upper and lower sections of the drum are taupe mica, a natural mineral that glows amber rather than white when lit. Two pull chains hang beneath the shade for switching, one per lamp, so you can run one bulb low or both together.
How It Works
The shade takes two E27 bulbs, not supplied, so you can choose warm LEDs to suit the mica glow. Wiring is Class I, which means it needs an earthed connection rather than running on a two core flex, and dimming only works if you fit dimmable bulbs yourself since the fitting has no built in dimmer module. As a floor standing lamp it plugs straight in, so there is no hardwired installation to arrange, though the shade does need a short simple assembly onto the frame once unpacked, following the fitted parts through carefully so the mica panels sit flush against the tile band.
Where It Works Best
At just over 152cm tall with a 40cm shade, this is the floor standing member of the Laguna family, built for the corner of a living room, beside a favourite armchair, or flanking a sofa where a table lamp would sit too low. Compared with the Laguna table lamp it throws light higher into a room, useful where you want the glow to fall across a seating group rather than pool on a side table. The round base sits at 29cm across, wide enough to stand steady on a rug without tipping.
The Charleston Chapter Of Quoizel
Quoizel moved its headquarters, manufacturing and distribution out of New York in 1996, relocating to a 305,000 square foot facility near Charleston, South Carolina, where the company still operates today. That move put the design studio somewhere with its own light and colour palette, and pieces like Laguna, with its warm mica and tile banding, owe something to that low country setting. The company remains privately held and family run, a rarer thing in lighting than it once was.

Questions People Ask
How does this compare in height to the Laguna table lamp? The floor lamp stands around 152cm tall against roughly 64cm for the table lamp, so it is built to light a room from standing height rather than a side table.
Does it come with bulbs? No, it takes two E27 bulbs which are not included, so you can pick the warmth and brightness you want.
Can I dim it? Only if you fit dimmable bulbs and use a compatible dimmer switch. The fitting itself has no dimmer built in.
