The larger Griffin in Weathered Brass carries four lamps instead of three, so it puts out more light across a wider glass bowl, useful once a room or the table underneath it grows past the ordinary.

Weathered Brass runs across the whole fitting here, from the ceiling rose down through the curved arms to the ring around the shade and the finial ball, a warm, softly antiqued tone rather than a sharp polished brass. The etched glass bowl is painted white inside, spreading the light evenly rather than showing the bulbs.

How It Works

Four E27 bulbs sit inside the shade, arranged around the centre stem, and they are not supplied. It is Class I, so it needs an earth connection, and it will only dim with dimmable bulbs fitted and a compatible dimmer switch. Being a hardwired ceiling fitting, it should be installed by a qualified electrician.

Where It Works Best

At 35.6cm high and 52.8cm across, this is the larger of the two Weathered Brass sizes, better suited to a kitchen or dining room with a reasonable amount of ceiling height, over an island or a table for six or more. The small version in the same finish drops to 30.1cm high and 42.2cm across with three lamps, so use that one instead in a hallway or a more modest room.

Who Makes Quoizel

One of Quoizel's oldest designs, the Abigail Adams lamp, began life burning oil and stayed in the catalogue for decades after the company started switching over to hardwired, electric fittings. Griffin is a much newer design, but it belongs to the same company that made that switch from portable oil lamps to ceiling fittings like this one, chandeliers, pendants and sconces among them.
