A Ring Of Chrome Around A Soft White Bowl
Some ceilings are too low for a hanging shade to make sense, and this is built for exactly that problem. A wide bowl of white glass sits tight under a ring of polished chrome, spreading the light sideways rather than down, so nothing crowds the room below it.
Choosing Polished Chrome
The chrome here is bright and mirror like, a cool silver that throws back a clean reflection rather than the softer glow bronze or brass would give. Look closely at the ceiling plate and you will spot a small faceted crystal style bead either side of the centre stem, a neat touch of glass against all that polished metal. The bowl itself is opaque opal glass, so from below it reads simply as a wide white curve, whatever finish holds it. If chrome feels too cool for the room, the same fitting comes in Palladian Bronze, in Weathered Brass, or with the bronze and brass paired against a seeded glass bowl that shows its lamps rather than hiding them.
How It Works
Three E27 lamp holders sit on a central stem inside the bowl, the lamps facing outward so the opal glass spreads the output evenly rather than casting a hot spot straight down. Bulbs are not supplied. There is no integrated LED, so any dimming comes from fitting dimmable lamps of your own choosing. It is a Class I fitting, meaning the ceiling point needs an earth connection, and being hardwired it should be put up by a qualified electrician. Two curved arms carry the bowl from a stepped ceiling plate down to ball joints at the rim, with a rail crossing underneath and a small turned finial holding the glass up from below.
Where It Works Best
It suits a kitchen or dining room where an even spread of light matters more than a design statement hanging in the middle of the space, and it works just as well in a hallway or bedroom with a lower ceiling. At 42.2cm across and 19.4cm high it is the same size as every other finish in the Griffin flush range, so the decision here is purely about colour, chrome against bronze, brass, or the bronze and brass pairing with seeded glass. If your ceiling has the height to spare, the semi flush versions of the Griffin drop the same bowl a little lower on a short stem.
About Quoizel
Quoizel is still a family business, and has been since Michael Chaikin started it in Manhattan in 1930. In 1996 the company left New York altogether, moving its headquarters and manufacturing to a 305,000 square foot site near Charleston, South Carolina, where it still operates today. That move put the design studio somewhere quite different from where the company began, and a fitting as plain and useful as this one, no ornament beyond the chrome ring and a bead of crystal, owes as much to that Southern practicality as to the brand's Manhattan roots.

Questions People Ask
Is this the same size as the bronze version? Yes, every finish in the Griffin flush range shares the same 42.2cm diameter and 19.4cm height. Only the finish and, on one version, the glass, changes.
What bulbs do I need? Three E27 screw fit lamps, not included. Since the glass is opal and opaque, a warm white LED gives the softest spread.
Will it work in a bathroom? There is no IP rating quoted for this fitting, so it should stay in a dry room rather than a bathroom.
