Lantern Light, Hung Rather Than Fixed
This is the hanging version of the Goldenrod design, suspended from a chain rather than mounted flush to a wall, which makes it the fitting to reach for on a covered porch, an entrance canopy or anywhere with a ceiling to hang from instead of a wall to fix to.
Choosing Your Finish
Like the rest of the range it is finished in a dark Western Bronze body with gold toned vertical bars running up each glass panel, a two tone look rather than a single flat colour. The chain itself is finished to match the dark bronze body, so it reads as one continuous piece rather than a separate accessory.
How It Works
Fitted for one E27 bulb, not supplied, and dimmable only if you use a dimmable bulb, since there is no dimmer built into the fitting. It is Class I, so it needs a proper earth connection and should go in the hands of a qualified electrician. The IP44 rating means it is built to cope with driving rain and general weather under a porch or canopy, and the chain gives an adjustable drop from around 51.3cm up to roughly 299cm, so it can be set for anything from a low porch ceiling to a much taller void.
Where It Works Best
At 42.1cm tall and 20.6cm wide this is the medium size in the Goldenrod family, smaller and lighter than the large wall lantern, and because it hangs on a chain rather than fixing flush, it needs a ceiling or beam to suspend from rather than a flat wall. Think entrance porches, pergolas or a covered walkway rather than a bare exterior wall.
About Quoizel
The company was founded in 1930 by Michael Chaikin, and its very first products were oil burning hurricane lamps rather than anything electric, made for homes that had not yet been wired up. As electricity reached more houses, Quoizel moved with it, shifting from portable oil lamps into hardwired chandeliers, pendants and exactly this kind of hanging lantern.
