A Modern Update on the Classic Lantern

Goldenrod takes the traditional four sided lantern and squares off the lines, replacing fussy scrollwork with clean vertical bars in a contrasting warm tone. The result reads as outdoor lighting that would suit a new build as easily as a period porch.

Choosing Your Finish

The body comes in a deep Western Bronze, almost black in most light, with slim gold toned bars running the height of each glass panel. It is a two tone fitting rather than a single flat colour, and the contrast is part of the design rather than an accident of the photography, so expect the gold strips to stand out clearly against the dark frame once it is mounted.

How It Works

It takes one E27 bulb, not supplied, and will dim if you fit a dimmable bulb, though there is no dimmer built into the fitting. This is a Class I fitting and needs a proper earth connection, so it should be wired in by a qualified electrician. With an IP44 rating it is built to handle wind driven rain and general weather exposure at a porch, doorway or gable end.

Quoizel has been based out of a large manufacturing and distribution site near Charleston, South Carolina since 1996, having relocated there from its original home in New York. That move brought the design studio into the low country, and the coastal, weathered materials sense of that part of the world still comes through in outdoor ranges like Goldenrod.

Does this need an electrician to fit? Yes, it is a Class I hardwired fitting, so it should be installed by a qualified electrician who can connect the earth properly.

Is it suitable for a coastal property? The 3 year corrosion guarantee specifically excludes locations within 5 miles of the coastline, so while the fitting is weather rated, that particular guarantee will not apply if you are right on the seafront.

What is the difference between this and the medium chain lantern in the same range? This is the large wall mounted version at 51cm tall with a fixed bracket fitting, while the chain lantern hangs from an adjustable chain and is sized for a porch ceiling rather than a wall.
