A Single Old Factory Shade, Cast In Bronze
This is the one shade version of the Emery pendant, a deep bronze railway style shade with a fine brass ring at the rim, hung from a rigid rod rather than a run of chains. It has the look of a reclaimed workshop light rather than something built for a showroom.
Picking Your Finish
Palladian bronze is the darker, more textured option in the Emery range, a matte brown body finished with a slim brass trim at the shade edge and bracket. If you would rather something brighter, the same shade shape is also made in a mirror like imperial silver and a softer weathered brass, both sold separately. An opal glass diffuser sits under the shade to keep the light gentle rather than glaring.
How It Works
One E27 lamp lights the shade, and the bulb is not supplied. Fit a dimmable E27 bulb and the pendant will dim, though there is no dimmer switch built into the fitting. It is a Class I fitting, so it needs an earth connection, and as a hardwired ceiling fitting it should be connected by a qualified electrician rather than fitted yourself.
Where It Works Best
At 34.3cm across the shade, this single pendant suits a spot over a small table, a reading corner or spaced in twos and threes along a longer island, rather than trying to light a whole kitchen island on its own. For that job, the three light Emery island bar carries three of the same shades on one arched bar and is available in this same palladian bronze finish, sold separately.
From Oil Lamps To Chandeliers
Quoizel started out in 1930 as a small Manhattan lamp company, and its earliest products were not electric at all but oil burning hurricane lamps, made in the years before mains lighting reached most homes. As electricity spread through American houses, the company moved into hardwired chandeliers, pendants, sconces and ceiling lights of the kind you see here, carrying over the same emphasis on a well finished metal shade.

Questions People Ask
How dark is palladian bronze in real life? It is a matte, deep brown bronze with just a slim brass trim at the rim, darker and less reflective than the imperial silver option.
Can I fit more than one over my island? Yes, several are often spaced along a run, or you can step up to the three light Emery island bar, which carries three shades on one bar in this same finish.
Does it need a qualified electrician? Yes, this is a hardwired Class I pendant with an earth connection, so it should be installed by a qualified electrician.
