One Bright Shade, Endless Reflections
Polished to a near mirror shine, this single railway shade throws back the room around it rather than absorbing the light, so it reads as a sharper, more contemporary take on an old factory pendant. Hang it low over a breakfast bar and it becomes a genuine piece of kitchen hardware rather than just something you switch on at dusk.
Picking Your Finish
Imperial silver is the brightest finish in the Emery range, a bold, chrome like shine rather than a brushed or antique effect. The same shade shape is also made in a deep palladian bronze and a softer weathered brass, both sold separately, so it is worth deciding on your metal tone before you order rather than after. An opal glass diffuser sits under the shade, which is what keeps the light soft even in this reflective finish.
How It Works
One E27 lamp lights the shade, and as with the rest of the Emery range the bulb is not supplied. Fit a dimmable E27 bulb and the pendant will dim, though the fitting itself carries no dimmer switch. It is wired to Class I, so it needs an earth connection, and being a hardwired ceiling fitting it should be put up by a qualified electrician rather than as a DIY job.
Where It Works Best
At 34.3cm across the shade, this is the single, smaller sibling to the three light Emery island bar, better suited to a single drop over a breakfast bar, a small table or a run of two or three spaced along a longer island. If you need to light a full sized kitchen island in one go, the three light Emery island bar shares the same shade shape and bracket and is available in this same imperial silver finish, sold separately.
Tiffany Glass Roots, Metal Shades Today
Quoizel built much of its early reputation on Tiffany style stained glass work, a specialism it carried from table lamps into chandeliers, pendants and wall fittings over the decades. This particular design leaves the glass to a plain opal diffuser rather than coloured panels, but the same attention to how a shade is finished, in this case a mirror bright metal rather than glass, comes from that same design tradition.

Questions People Ask
Is imperial silver the same as chrome? It is a bright, highly reflective silver finish, closer to polished chrome than to a brushed steel or pewter look.
How does this compare to the three light version? This is the single shade pendant, 34.3cm across. The three light Emery island bar carries three of the same shades on a single arched bar for a wider kitchen island or table.
What bulb does it take? One E27 bulb, not included, so choose your own to suit the brightness and colour temperature you want.
