This medium Chasm takes the same hexagonal, faceted profile as its larger sibling and scales it down to suit a narrower doorway or gate post. It still throws light both up and down from a Matte Black body with a copper toned band through the middle.

Choosing Your Finish

Finished in Matte Black with a brushed, wood grain textured band in a warm copper tone wrapped around the centre, this is a fixed finish rather than a pick your own combination. The dark body keeps the shape sharp and architectural, while the band breaks it up with a bit of warmth, visible clearly in the close up shots.

How It Works

Chasm runs on integrated LED rather than replaceable lamps, two 9.5W LEDs giving a combined output of around 1000 lumens at a warm 3000K, with a CRI above 80. It does not dim. It is Class I wiring, so it needs an earth connection, and being a hardwired outdoor fitting it should go in with a qualified electrician.

Where It Works Best

Standing 38.6cm tall, this medium Chasm suits a narrower door surround or a pair of gate posts where the larger 52cm version would feel oversized. It is IP44 rated, so it is built to handle rain and splashing in an exposed position. The large Chasm shares the same finish but stands taller at 52cm and puts out close to 1800 lumens rather than 1000, so choose based on the scale of the opening and how much light you want thrown.

From Oil Lamps To LED

Quoizel started out in 1930 making oil burning hurricane lamps, long before electric lighting was standard in most homes. As houses electrified, the company moved into hardwired chandeliers, pendants and wall fittings, and that same shift from flame to electric current, then on to LED, is what a fitting like Chasm represents today.
